BMD, a family-owned company founded in Queensland in 1979, will prepare the site for construction. The new 63,000 seat Brisbane Stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies and athletics at the 2032 Games before becoming the city’s main oval stadium and home ground for current AFL Premiers the Brisbane Lions, and cricket’s Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash, Queensland Bulls at interstate level, as well as an outstanding international cricket venue for Test, One Day and T20 matches.
BMD will begin the next phase of works from early next month, including bulk earthworks, erosion and sediment controls, haul roads, semi-permanent fencing, stormwater drains, retaining walls and establishment of a logistics plaza.

GHD will provide multidisciplinary design and technical advisory services for the package, supporting site preparation before construction begins.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Planning and Infrastructure Jarrod Bleijie said the appointment of BMD was a testament to local capabilities. “We’re ensuring a Queensland business is delivering for Queenslanders and is an important part of putting the state on the world stage,” Deputy Premier Bleijie said.
Marking a significant milestone on the project's construction pathway ahead of the 2032 Games, the appointments come as Queensland accelerates delivery of its Olympic infrastructure program following the transfer of Victoria Park to the Games Independent Infrastructure Construction Authority (GIICA) and the commencement of preparatory works last month.
GIICA has been undertaking site investigations and survey assessments, as well as repurposing some existing buildings into site facilities and offices, since it took possession of Victoria Park on 1 June. GIICA selected BMD following a rigorous two-phase open market procurement process, beginning with an Invitation for Prequalification (IFP) that attracted 22 responses, followed by an Invitation to Offer (ITO) conducted in accordance with an approved Procurement and Evaluation Plan.
GIICA CEO Simon Crooks said early works starting was an important milestone. “It’s great to be working with BMD on our Games journey, creating Queensland jobs and building an extraordinary legacy with the new Brisbane Stadium in Victoria Park,” Mr Crooks said.
The early works contract is separate from the main stadium build, with consortiums Built Australia/Sacyr and John Holland/BESIX Watpac remaining in contention under an early contractor involvement process to deliver the venue.
