Jeremy Deller’s Sacrilege, a life-sized, inflatable reconstruction of the archaeological site Stonehenge, was unveiled for Milan Design Week 2018. The towering installation was presented by Fondazione Nicola Trussardi on the occasion of the 23rd edition of Miart and the Milanese Art Week. This is the first time the celebrated British artist has partnered with an Italian institution on a solo project.

Deller has transformed the Stonehenge monument into a giant inflatable toy for children, reproducing it in plastic and turning it into a funfair attraction that is 35 metres in diametre. The public is called to interact with the installation; to climb, jump and play.

Central to Deller’s work is an interest in historical events and their influence on popular culture and folkloric expressions. His installations are characterised by audience participation, as he sculpts social experiences in which performances and videos encourage exchange and aggregation.

The presentation of Sacrilege in Milan is the framework of Miart 2018 and the Milanese art week, conceived and promoted by the Fondazione Nicola Trussardi in collaboration with Citylife.
