A TREE FIT FOR ROYALTY
07 Aug 2018
With the winter season coming to an end, the Robinia pseudoacacia ‘Purple Robe’ is in the last stages of stock. This stunning tree features a tight canopy and rich purple flowers that will bring elegance and sophistication to any outdoor landscape. Don’t miss out.
This cultivar of the coveted Robinia plant, supplied by Plant Multi Nursery, develops to about 12m in height x 6m-11m in width. The upright, rounded growth and short, irregular branches form a tighter canopy than many other species and cast medium shade below the tree, allowing for a healthy lawn to grow.
The 15 to 35-centimetre-long blue/green leaves, made up of multiple leaflets, are some of the last to appear in spring and often fade to deep yellow/green before dropping in early autumn. For approximately 10 days in late spring, the trees are adorned with stunning, dense clusters of extremely fragrant blossoms in gorgeous shades of deep rose and pink (similar to sweet-peas). These blossoms literally buzz with activity from the bees that visit in earnest during this time.
Dark red to black leathery seed pods follow these blossoms and will persist throughout the winter season. Once established, the Robinia plant is very drought tolerant, perfect for the hot Australian climate.
The Robinia plant is the perfect addition to any external landscape, with its stunning foliage creating beautiful shady spots and the flowers adding colour and style. It is currently available bare rooted with very limited stock in supply as the season comes to an end.
