A SUSTAINABLE CHOICE

28 Oct 2021

The Kembla Grange Bunnings features the Baines Masonry Betta Block – a versatile block designed with the environment in mind.

The Kembla Grange Bunnings located in the Illawarra, opened earlier last year featuring the Baines Masonry Betta Block. As a versatile block in terms of design, it also presents sustainable benefits over other solutions in the market.

Designed with the environment in mind, the Betta Block is made from 65 percent heavy industry by-products, utilising landfill waste generated from traditional coal fire electricity and steel making industry. Due to refinements in manufacturing processes, the cement content has been significantly reduced by 40 percent, increasing super fly ash. The result is a Betta Block which is 40 percent less carbon concentrated, lowering the supply chain carbon footprint by up to 45 percent.

The use of recycled materials means a lightweight product, whilst maintaining a compressive strength of more than 15mpa and complying with Australian Standards 4455. The Betta Blockrange average dry weight is 35 percent less than conventional masonry. The benefits of lighter masonry blocks include reduced manual handling risks, lower freight costs and a smaller supply chain carbon footprint – more products can be delivered per pallet for the same carbon output.

The Kembla Grange Bunnings project, as seen in the video, utilises the Betta Block structural and retaining properties while providing industrial design benefits consistent with Bunnings’s Warehouse’s across Australia. The Betta Block while a staple in our masonry range, is a one of a kind within the market, with continual improvements set to ensure it is the number one choice in the market - a sustainable choice!

Baines Masonry manufactures a complete range of concrete products including architectural, structural and retaining wall systems, blocks and pavers in a wide variety of styles and colours. Baines Masonry are constantly adding products to their range, such as sealers, adhesives, geofabric, water features and more, to ensure they meet all your concrete masonry needs. It’s not a secret that Baines Masonry’s success is due to their commitment to Quality First - all customers, commercial and residential are only delivered quality products with professional service.
