AN ENDLESS LINE OF LIGHT

For 2019 Milan Design Week, BIG has created La Linea, a flexible tube of light that can twist and turn across endless distances, offering endless lighting possibilities for public outdoor spaces.
For this year’s edition of Milan Design Week, Danish architecture practice Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) has teamed up once again with Italian light manufacturer Artemide, with a collaboration resulting in a product that looks basic but is packed with technological innovation. Dubbed La Linea, this new lighting object is a flexible tube of light, capable of twisting and turning throughout endless distances in accordance to different spaces and undefined geometries.
Elegant and sleek, La Linea has been created for both indoor and outdoor spaces. Its fixing elements have been concealed inside its section, enabling it for countless applications in a wide variety of locations. It features Artemide’s incomparable light quality, IP protection grade, flexibility and modularity. Each individual element is five metres long but can be extended endlessly and seamlessly thanks to its concealed joints without visible shadows or signs.
Featuring Artemide’s patented optical unit, La Linea generates an even and comfortable high-efficiency diffused light. This patent brings together several types of intelligences that connect optical with material, mechanical, manufacturing principles and sustainable values. It can be folded and ensures easy maintenance and longevity.
With its minimal footprint in space, it can either blend with the architecture or become highly expressive, as it allows users to draw with light.
