A Flying Upgrade

A passenger terminal has been designed by Woods Bagot for Port Hedland International Airport, WA, as the key component of a series of major upgrades to the complex.

The passenger terminal is the next in the suite of upgrades that have so far included an asphalt runway, runway lighting upgrades and a new taxiway.

Currently, the airport services up to 50 commercial flights a week and over 400,000 passengers per annum, with Qantas and Virgin both offering regular services. This airport is integral for those who operate in the area’s mining industry.

The new terminal design focuses on safety and providing a contemporary experience for travellers, and will be over 800 sqm larger than the current structure.

“Observing the latest developments in terminal design, flexibility and future growth were key considerations for the design team,” said Kukame McPierzie, chair of Woods Bagot’s Perth studio.
