Kohn Pedersen Fox's (KPF) design was informed by the architectural language of surrounding buildings, as well as the speculative architectural drawings of architect Hugh Ferriss. "Our design for the 520 Fifth Avenue tower combines the setbacks of Hugh Ferris' 1920's New York with arches arranged in modular bundles – rising to 1,000 feet," said KPF president James von Klempere.

"We also looked to the arches of the landmarks in the neighbourhood, including the New York Public Library and Grand Central Terminal, translating these forms into a modern version of this motif." This modern take results in a tower made of stepped, interconnected rectangular volumes wrapped in arched windows that gradually grow taller towards the top of the building.

The project rises from the northwest corner of Fifth Avenue and West 43rd Street, just a block from Grand Central Terminal and Bryant Park. 520 Fifth Avenue intends to reinvent the live/ work paradigm through its combination of retail, office, and luxury residences flanked by terraces below. The tower will have sweeping views of the Midtown skyline and glimpses of Central Park.

Construction is already underway on the building with completion scheduled for 2025.
