Unsealed sandstone is prone to picking up dirt, dust, oils and greases due to its porosity. Contaminants will be absorbed, not only causing staining but promoting the growth of algae. Sandstone is generally best cleaned of dirt build-up using warm water and a mild detergent with a soft brush.
