William Bruce Ronald Reserve

William Bruce Ronald Reserve in Pakenham received a heritage-inspired playground renewal that blends character and contemporary play into a cohesive community space. The design draws on the site’s rural context, introducing warm materiality and thoughtful detailing while supporting active movement, imaginative play and social connection for children of all ages.

The central feature of the playground is a custom combination unit from the Cultivation Range, a sub-range of Fortitude, designed to reflect the reserve’s agricultural heritage. Its barn-style roof, decorative water tank and rooster weathervane provide visual identity and narrative, anchoring the playspace within its setting while delivering multiple points of play.

Surrounding play elements expand the experience with dual wave slides for side-by-side fun, agility trail components for skill-based movement, and a thematic “Cattle Yards” play zone featuring interactive panels and tactile materials. A mix of traditional, birds nest and inclusive swing seats adds variety, while a cheerful cow rocker and zipline encourage confidence-building activity.

The layout was carefully planned to promote open, active engagement and clear sightlines for carers, ensuring the space functions as a welcoming, legible and durable playscape. Designed, manufactured and installed in Australia, WB Ronald Reserve playground demonstrates how contemporary play environments can respond to local context, heritage and community needs.
