MONCRIEFF COMMUNITY RECREATION PARK RECOGNISED AT AILA ACT AWARDS

Moncrieff Community Recreation Park (CRP) took out top honours in the Play Spaces category at the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) ACT Chapter Awards in Canberra.

The Gungahlin-based project in Canberra’s north emerged victorious from a competitive playspace field that included another KOMPAN space – Yerradhang Nguru Park in Googong.

Moncrieff CRP, completed in 2017, was entered by Redbox Design Group, the landscape architecture firm who delivered the park for the ACT Government Suburban Land Agency. The playground was created by KOMPAN’s local partner for NSW and ACT, Play By Design, and includes a range of spectacular KOMPAN and Corocord products.

Excerpt from Redbox Design Group’s award submission:

Moncrieff Community Recreation Park is a new multi-purpose facility designed for the whole community, combining a range of sporting activities with play and recreation for all ages. The design was motivated by a fundamental objective to inspire the community to get out and get moving. The design philosophy was strongly founded in the life and legacy of Australia’s “Queen of Song”, Gladys Moncrieff, as well as the Suburban Land Agency’s vibrant branding of sunset colours and linear marketing imagery. The conceptual thinking was expanded further, drawing on the simplistic and poetically powerful sculptural assemblages of Rosalie Gascoigne.

The wider Moncrieff East area also won the Parks and Open Space award.
