JOHN PETER HOWARD RESERVE

Since the refurbishment of the John Peter Howard Reserve playground, it has become a “must-visit” for Central Coast locals. Austek Play met the prescribed budget and targeted age group by offering a combination of traditional modular play equipment, including slides, sensory, climbing and balancing items. Children are challenged within a controlled environment, which can promote and encourage the development of a child’s core motor skills of balance, speed, agility and strength. The upgrade has resulted in a larger, safer, more accessible and inclusive play space.

The inclusive nature of this play space was a design objective, and was achieved by Austek Play integrating multiple inclusive play items from their range, such as the Roty roundabout, Dragonfly seesaw, Cantilever Swing with basket seat, Omni Cubby, and Eco Station. The layout of the space was also carefully designed to embrace inclusivity and accessibility, as this considers not only how a child will play on the equipment, but also considers how parents and carers engage with the space as both supervisors and spectators.

The custom themed Omnitech pirate ship structure complements the waterside location of the park, and boasts a large number of play values, including but not limited to: standard play panels and custom pirate panels, safety stairs, a challenge ladder, two double wide slides in different heights, pirate ship flags, a fire pole, a rope bridge, and a boat bow.
