WHY YOU SHOULD USE A LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT

16 Jan 2012

While you can achieve some landscaping goals on your own, it’s a far better choice to work with a landscape architect.

Your outdoor area needs more than just to look its best – it needs to be functional, aesthetically pleasing and it needs to blend harmoniously with the environment. Whether your outdoor area is a playground or a park, the grounds of a college, a soccer field or a residential back yard, it’s important that it be landscaped properly. While you can achieve some landscaping goals on your own, it’s a far better choice to work with a landscape architect.

What Does a Landscape Architect Do?

You’ll find that a landscape architect does more than what you might think of when you imagine a landscaping firm. You might imagine a company that plants trees and builds retaining walls, but a landscape architect is much more than this. This is a professional capable of creating in-depth landscaping design plans on a computer to ensure that every aspect of your outdoor area is planned perfectly.

A Landscape Architect Studies and Analyses

In order to ensure that your outdoor area is not just aesthetically pleasing, but also drains rainwater properly, fits with the environment and is sustainable over the long term, a landscape architect will analyze several key things. He or she will analyze the soil, the water, the local flora, the geography of the area (flat, hilly, etc.) and even the amount and displacement of sunlight your area receives. With this information, a landscape architect can create the best possible design.

Once the initial design has been completed, the landscape architect will then set about creating a list of materials required to do the job correctly. From retaining wall material to flowerbed mulch, playground equipment to soil additives and the plants themselves, a landscape architect will combine state of the art design with the best materials possible to get the job done.

After the Design Stage

After the design stage, the landscape architect will usually check on the work to ensure that everything is progressing correctly according to the overall plan. Most often, these professionals do not do the installation work themselves, but might work with a landscaping company, or you might choose to hire one as a subcontractor to design your outdoor area prior to selecting a landscaping company.
Hiring a landscape architect is the best way to ensure that your outdoor area is beautiful, functional and that it blends perfectly with the environment without causing harm or stress to the ecosystem.
