WASTE NOT WANT NOT

Utilising potential waste material, Capricorn Sandstone Quarries supplied the Rockhampton Art Gallery in Queensland with offcut stone.
With a zero-waste policy, Capricorn Sandstone Quarries set aside as much waste material as possible so that it can be repurposed for a suitable project. By doing this, the company reduces its waste output and provides the client with better value. One of the most recent projects supplied with offcut material is the Rockhampton Museum of Art, the largest gallery in regional Queensland.
Over 600m2 of high-quality offcut material was supplied to meet the architects brief, an unusual finish not widely used in Australia and certainly not in Queensland. With specialised stonemasons engaged to complete the works, the offcuts were carefully selected to meet the architect’s requirements for colour and size, ensuring only the best quality material is used. By using offcut material, Capricorn Sandstone Quarries were able to reduce its waste output by over 160 tons, which is equivalent to nearly seven full semi-trailers!
Capricorn Sandstone Quarries has invested heavily in its factory and quarry machinery. This ensures a modern and efficient operation, which enhances its capability to produce high-quality sandstone products and re-purpose offcuts through the utilisation of advanced manufacturing machinery.
