One of Sydney’s most adored museums is set for major renovations that will open the contemporary museum up to more exhibition and educational spaces, as well as creating new outdoor public spaces.
In the heart of Sydney, Powerhouse Ultimo is set for a transformative renovation. Designed by an Australian team including Architectus, Durbach Block Jaggers Architects, Tyrrell Studio, Youssofzay + Hart, Akira Isogawa, Yerrabingin, Finding Infinity and Arup who will deliver a fresh, new Powerhouse Ultimo for visitors to enjoy.
Featured in the new designs include more standard galleries for immersive exhibitions and learning programs, more museum exhibition spaces and educational spaces, open public spaces to enable opportunities for outdoor programs, renovations to the Harris Street façade and a new urban space connecting the museum to The Goods Line, a connective walkway from Central Station to Darling Harbour.
Construction is expected to start December 2023.
