TITLETOWN TAKES THE STAGE
09 Aug 2018
Titletown District in Wisconsin is an exciting new public precinct that encapsulates the passion of The Green Bay Packers supporters during games while offering year-round activities that promote social and physical engagement. Featuring a sledding hill, ice-skating rink and a never-ending activities agendas, this space offers active community engagement all day every day.
The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The district was constructed by ROSSETTI at Packer Plaza, which sits in between Lambeau Field and Hinterland Brewery, with commercial buildings and townhouses surrounding it. The key feature of the development is a two-storey, 90-metre sledding hill, a first for the US. Ariens Hill is modelled on a frozen tundra, rising in a slope away from the park, acting as both a separate place for fun in winter and an extension of the greenspace in summer.
The hill rests on top of a pavilion that is constructed from local white cedar and fond du lac stone, and features a skating pond, which snakes underneath as though it were a frozen river. The rest of the pavilion includes a restaurant, café, shops, ice-skating rental and event space. There are two tubing lanes at Ariens Hill, with a selection of snow-making machines and equipment that will ensure an optimal tubing experience throughout the winter season.
The outdoor space includes a unique and innovative playground, a large football field and plenty of spaces for all kinds of activities. Titletown’s daily agenda is full of exciting activities, from Zumba and Pilates classes, to walking groups, a weekly night market, craft classes for both kids and adults, and a daily happy hour.
The multi-use features ensure there is activity throughout winter and summer, where the space will be a green park space with multitudes of outdoor events. The architecture is a key feature of the development as it takes cues for the industrial history of Green Bay, utilising a modern rendition of local materials such as brick, steel and cobblestone.
It is hoped that Titletown District’s success will continue to grow, with future retail, commercial and residential developments planned for the future.
