THE HAPPY GARDEN

24 Feb 2016

Jungle Play partners with Fairy Sparkles and Outhouse Design to create a magical wonderland of botanical delights for the Sydney Children’s Hospital.

The Happy Garden at the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick is a magical new fantasy garden created by Fairy Sparkle, Outhouse Design and Jungle Play specifically to make a difference in the day-to-day lives of sick children and their families.

Fairy Sparkle OAM is a familiar, happy face at children’s hospitals throughout Australia bringing joy and spreading her infectious happiness and magic wherever she goes. Funded entirely by donations, The Happy Garden grew out of Fairy’s wish create a happy, joyful space for families to spend time together in nature during their most difficult times.

“Nature's magic has an effect on us all, especially children, and helps us heal if we give her the chance. In its simplest form the very nature of the garden draws patients out of their beds and the families out of the ward. It allows nature to nurture them when they need it most”, said Fairy.

The Happy Garden was designed by Katrine Mardini and Steve Warner of Outhouse Design and utilises key pieces from the Jungle Play collection. Katrine and Steve graciously and selflessly accepted the challenge to transform the unloved, grey concrete and brick balcony into a colourful, whimsical space with a unique magic all of its own.

Featured in the garden are Jungle Play’s giant toadstools with fibre-optic rainbow twinkles, mushroom table and chairs, gum leaf seats and giant gerberas nestled among the real trees and plants. At night, the garden takes on entirely different character as the twinkling fairy lights softly illuminate the space.

There is nothing more powerful than caring people working together to plant and nurture a dream whose time has come. We all have the pleasure of knowing that every dollar donated, every hour given, every seed planted will grow to be treasured by all for many years to come.

The Happy Garden at Sydney Children’s Hospital is the first of many garden wonderlands that are destined to be created at various hospitals throughout Australia.
