STOP TREE ROOTS AT THE SOURCE

05 Jul 2017

Root Barrier’s (UPGI) Pipe Trench Growth Inhibitor (patent pending) stops tree root growth before it becomes an issue for surrounding pipe and service works.

In any landscape that incorporates trenching and service works, tree growth requires long-term management and adequate future planning at the initial design stages, to ensure that root growth does not disrupt services or undermine the stability of the groundwork.

The reality is, however, that the process of installing these services into sand filled trenches results in a perfect environment for fast root growth. Once the trench becomes a moist aerated zone, tree roots accelerate growth in this new climate.

To combat this the (UPGI) Pipe Trench Growth Inhibitor, a soil/ sand additive from Root Barrier, creates a PH zone in the sand around the pipe, preventing fast growth conditions for roots and acting as a barrier to growth in and around leaking pipes.

To ensure no further growth of roots surrounding pipes, the process simply requires the removal of any existing roots in the vicinity; then continue by mixing 1 part additive to 4 parts sand and spreading it around the buffer area among the blending mix around the trench, after this has been spread you can resume laying the service as per usual.

The change in PH levels once the (UPGI) Pipe Trench Growth Inhibitor has been added to the sand will results in minimal root growth compared to earlier conditions, making the long-term maintenance of the surrounding services less frequent.

This product is 100% natural with no manufactured chemicals and the same salinity as sea water, making it a safe alternative to harsh manufactured products available. The product is also stabilized to prevent active components from leaching away into surrounding areas. In a testament to the suitability of this product in industry works, the (UPGI) Pipe Trench Growth Inhibitor has recently been accepted into the design specifications of Queensland Urban Utilities, who write the standards for councils and others specifiers in Queensland.
