SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CELEBRATED

18 Sep 2019

Designs have been released for the new science and technology museum to be designed in Xingtai, the oldest city in northern China, which celebrate the scientific progress of the region.

The concept generated by winning architects Coop Himmelb(l)au celebrates the scientific aspect and progress of the region and anchors the status of Xingtai as a technological hub and key player in the province.

After a competition organised by China Building Centre, Coop Himmelb(l)au were able to secure the victorious position due to its approach based on the historical endeavours of the great men and women of the area. The sculpture-like building generates a playful and bold cantilever, and a dynamic and fluid form that is reminiscent of the past and reflects on current and future innovations in all different fields.

Using new structural concepts, the building will hold plus energy systems that highlight the scientific and technological achievements of the city. The new building will stand out from its surroundings thanks to the colossal shape that acts as a projection screen for art. The clever design, however, allows for it to simultaneously blends within its inventive landscape and public space.

The project’s design resembles the traditional artistic moves of the firm but remains specific to the Chinese province.
