REGEN VILLAGES BRING SUSTAINABILITY TO SWEDEN

13 May 2020

Swedish architecture firm White Akitekter has joined up with ReGen Villages Holding to develop a series of smart, self-sufficient communities throughout Sweden. The first of its kind in the country, ReGen Villages Sweden meets the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals and will include sustainable living and organic local food production, optimised by an AI operating system.

Based in Silicon Valley, ReGen Villages Holding is a pioneer in “engineering and facilitating the development of integrated and resilient neighbourhoods that power and feed self-reliant families around the world” through the use of the AI VillageOS™ operating system software and ReGenerative Villages Simulator™. ReGen Villages uses “artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to enable thriving and flourishing communities with surplus energy, clean water, high-yield organic food that support urgently needed neighbourhood regenerative resiliency”.

The ReGen Villages concept is based around five key principles:

  1. High-yield organic and ecological food production
  2. Mixed renewable energy and storage systems
  3. Water and waste recycling
  4. Energy-positive architecture
  5. The empowerment of local communities

Each village is approximately 250,000 square metres with only a quarter of the site occupied by buildings, including 250-300 houses. The remaining space will be used for farming and the production of sustainable food, energy production and water management.

VillageOS™ is a system based on AI and machine learning, developed by ReGen Villages Holding. Mimicking the technology used in smart homes, VillageOS™ uses computer systems to monitor the community, from farming and recycling to residents’ energy and water usage.

VillageOS™ can be used from a central hub to run the community and can be optimised over time through collected data.

“Scalable, innovative solutions are the answers to the challenges of the future,” said James Ehrlich, founder of ReGen Villages Holding. “The collaboration with White will give Sweden and the Nordics the world’s first economically, ecologically and socially sustainable communities for ordinary people.”

ReGen Villages Holding has been meeting with Swedish landowners, developers and stakeholders over the past four years to get the project moving. White Arkitekter will handle the site planning and design of the sustainable architecture.

Construction hopes to begin in 2020.
