Commissioned and maintained by Albury City Council, Oddies Park is one of Albury’s leading destination playgrounds. Whether local to Albury, or passing through on interstate travel, over the years thousands of kids and families have enjoyed the boutique timber play structures and beautiful surrounding parklands.

The Murray River burst its banks in 2019 and this now infamous flooding event saw Oddies Creek Park underwater and unusable for months. As a result of this flooding, together with general wear and tear, the existing rubber surfacing was tired and in need of replacement.

Ripping out approximately 40 tonnes of rubber, sending it to landfill and replacing with new rubber was naturally not a desirable option for Albury City Council. Neither was keeping the playground closed any longer than necessary for a costly and time-consuming replacement.

That’s where Play Matta™ ReCover came in. Play Matta™ ReCover is a sustainable and long-lasting resurfacing programme, where the existing rubber play surface is utilised for its fall attenuation (softness) but is recovered by durable and invigorating Play Matta™ interlocking tiles to give new life. These tiles are made in New Zealand to ISO quality standards from recycled materials (up to 85 percent). Once installed, the tiles are PVC welded in place for years of trouble-free low maintenance performance. In fact, all certified Play Matta™ installations come with an industry leading full 6-year warranty (on product and installation).

Play Matta™ products have been installed across Australia for over a decade and internationally for 30+ years. Play Matta™ is proud to have worked with Albury City Council to divert this significant amount of rubber from landfill and transform this landmark play space in record time. Approximately 80 percent of the existing surface was utilised and Play Matta™ shock pads were installed for the remaining 20 percent to ensure ongoing fall height compliance.
