NO MORE GREENWALL DISASTERS

23 Aug 2017

Martin Kellock Pots and Planters is a proud supplier of the Vicinity Greenwall; a system that is making the implementation of greenwalls in our commercial spaces a safer, easier and lower maintenance process.

The Vicinity Greenwall system is a great option for commercial environments as it is easy to install, establish and maintain.

The Vicinity Greenwall system, supplied by Martin Kellock Pots and Planters, was designed to address a range of problems commonly experienced with conventional greenwall products. Inventor Ricky Frankental’s background in designing, building and maintaining greenwalls gave him practical insights into what it takes to succeed in this business. He notes, “We wanted to design something to make greenwalls become an everyday purchase, instead of massively complex and expensive undertaking for only a select few who could afford it. So we designed something simple and affordable so more people could do it.”

Before Vicinity’s revolutionary design, most professional plantscapers used traditional greenwalls constructed with geotextile fabric systems. However, this approach had many problems. Fabric systems were difficult and time consuming to install. Requiring high-level construction skill to build, they were essentially ‘handmade’ onsite which left a large margin for error. The complex system builds were also very expensive.

The Vicinity Greenwall system is easy to install. Utilising a modular joining system, the Vicinity Greenwall system results in a less invasive installation process.

Immature plants had to be used, leaving unsightly gaps in the foliage until they grew out on the wall. Customers were spending big money for a product that didn’t look great for the first year.

Plant replacement was difficult and the pockets cut into the fabric would give way after a while. Longevity was a struggle as the fabric needed to be replaced every couple of years.

Primarily hydroponic, fabric systems had very limited soil or growing media in the pockets. Greenwalls were therefore limited to the very few professionals experienced in managing hydroponic systems. Transplanting plants onsite into the fabric was a messy process and plants were subject to shock.

By contrast, Vicinity’s modular hexagonal pot system forms the basis of an entirely different greenwall. A new era has dawned where industry professionals can confidently – and easily – install and maintain stunning greenwalls for their clients.

The system suits a range of commercial and domestic settings and can be scaled to fit your location.

Frankental says, “This is a well refined, unique product that really helps landscapers to be successful. We wanted to share our solution with the world.”

Vicinity Greenwall is distributed throughout South Africa, Kenya, America and Australia.
