MORE THAN A PLAYGROUND

The community of Woodlea, Victoria, has proudly launched Hazelwood Park, a nature-focused wonderland designed to spark connection, creativity and inclusive play for families of all ages and abilities.

Nestled within the heart of Woodlea’s scenic Woodlands Precinct, Hazelwood Park is far from your average playground. Set next to 12 hectares of protected River Red Gum trees and six hectares of picturesque wetlands, the park weaves storytelling and nature into every design detail. From sculptural play elements inspired by dragonflies and native bird nests to bright pops of Billy Button flowers, Hazelwood Park invites families into a space where nature and imagination meet.
But this is more than just a playground. It’s a purpose-built destination designed to grow with the community. With wide, pram and wheelchair-friendly entry points, elevated play structures, textured equipment and calming sensory zones, Hazelwood Park caters to every type of play style, from quiet corners to group play areas that promote social interaction. Grandparents and guardians alike will find the design comfortable, considered and welcoming.
“Hazelwood Park represents the next evolution in community-first design,” said Thomas Banham, Woodlea’s Landscape Manager. “We’ve paired the beauty of the natural landscape with smart, inclusive infrastructure. This is a place that brings families together and grows with them over time.”
A key part of that philosophy has been a deliberate focus on native flora. Hundreds of indigenous plants and wildflowers have been established throughout the parklands to attract local bird and insect life to the area. Already, Hazelwood Park is humming with cockatoos, bees and even kangaroos, who are often spotted hopping through the surrounding woodland at dawn and dusk. It's not just a place to play - it's a place to reconnect with the rhythms of the Australian bush.
