MIFGS AWARD WINNERS
05 Apr 2017
The 2017 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show has wrapped up for another year. Check out the list of winners and their designs here.
The prestigious MIFGS Design Awards have recognised the incredible talent on display at the 2017 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. Held over the five days, the event saw thousands of visitors attend the show, held at the World Heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens, to learn the greatest trends, tips and tricks in the industry.
Representatives of the landscape, gardening and floristry industries today were in attendance at the breakfast award ceremony when Lord Mayor Robert Doyle bestowed the title of most outstanding exhibit with the City of Melbourne Award of Excellence for Best in Show to ‘I See Wild’, designed by Phillip Withers Landscape Design.
When asked about the winning design, Mr Withers explained, “Our brief was not just to create a sense of wild beauty, but also to incorporate a diversity of plants. Here the natives flow into the borrowed landscape, the flowers attract the pollinators and the fruits, herbs and veggies work into the wild for the family to pick and eat and learn”.
“We wanted to include timeless, natural and sustainable materials that bring the space to life for the whole family. The natural tracks through the garden, the rolling lawn and the living sculpture at the centre of the garden, which doubles as a kids fort, all enhance the sense of adventure,” he said.
Another special mention goes to the team at Pavers Plus, ‘Metropolis’ presented by Pavers Plus and designed by Candeo Design with construction by Block Constructions and landscape construction by Semken Landscaping was recognised for the best use of plant life in a garden with the Horticultural Media Association (HMA) Award.
Finally, The Mark Bence Construction Award, which recognises excellence in construction, was awarded to ‘Back to Babylon’ by PTA, Eco Outdoor & Tract Landscape Architecture.
Marcus Gale, IMG Event Director, said “We are always amazed by the incredible talent showcased at MIFGS, but 2017 has truly set new standards.”
