Australia’s biggest hotel, the Hyatt Regency in Sydney, recently underwent a dramatic refurbishment. A sturdy drainage system that complemented the new development was required and ACO delivered with their KlassikDrain system.
Located on the shores of Sydney’s stunning Darling Harbour, with extensive waterfront views, the Hyatt Regency underwent a $160 million refurbishment, which included the construction of a new 25-storey tower that included 13 hotel levels, 10 commercials office levels, a convention centre, dining precincts, meeting rooms and two ballrooms. As a considerably popular location for conferences, weddings, exhibitions, functions and more, the ground level and building entrances from Sussex Street also required development to ensure safe and easy access for pedestrians. This included a strong and durable drainage system that could withstand extensive pedestrian traffic, with wheelchair and heelsafe capabilities, in addition to vehicle traffic.
ACO delivered the ultimate solution thanks to their KlassikDrain KS200 sloped channel, with Stainless 5-Star Heelsafe® Anti-Slip grates. In order to deliver both aesthetic appeal and the specified requirements, ACO’s technical services department collaborated with the designers to collect the hydraulic performance data of the drain and to develop the accurate slot intake capacities.
The standard Heelsafe® Anti-Slip grate is reinforced to withstand up to 8000kg commercial vehicles and provides unparalleled safety for stiletto heels – a necessity for such a high-end destination that hosts many formal events and functions. The grate also includes a slip-resistance rating of P4 to AS 4586, and a boltless locking system guarantees the grate will stay in place through any traffic volume.
