LANDSCAPE TRENCH DRAINAGE SYSTEMS

14 Mar 2018

Doing their part for Australia, Hydro Construction delivered trench drainage systems for the new all-weather synthetic hockey pitches at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre, the world-class venue for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Working with Polytan Asia Pacific, the Hydro team was enlisted to provide MEA Fluid glass reinforced polyester (GRP) trench drainage and galvanised steel slotted grates for the centre. Speed, skill, determination and Hydro’s innovative GRP technology will be put to the test when the world’s greatest athletes battle it out at GC2018.

MEA Fluid truly is a highly functional drainage system fit for any purpose. The benefits far exceed expectations:

  • Extremely sturdy thanks to GRP material
  • Lightweight so you save on shipping and installation time
  • Long service life with minimal upkeep
  • Made from eco-friendly recyclable materials
  • Very easy to install thanks to the boltless Clipfix locking system on grates. Press! Click! Done!

These outstanding values make MEA Fluid the best choice for synthetic turf fields, tennis courts, running tacks, and general sporting facilities. The redevelopment of the Gold Coast Hockey Centre has established it as Queensland’s leading hockey venue. With the help of Hydro Construction Products, the new pitches have provided athletes of all levels the opportunity to train and compete safely on an internationally-certified facility.

However, not all GRP is the same. Quality and specific properties differ, sometimes considerably. Hydro relies on SMC technology (Sheet Molding Compound) – a composite of polyester resin, mineral fillers, additives, and glass fibre mats. Unlike thermoplastics, SMC does not deform after hardening but remains stable and durable in shape. Hydro’s extensive experience and expertise with this material guarantees lightweight and durable products that create added value.

MEA Fluid suits stainless steel, ductile iron, and galvanised grates, which are available in slotted or heelguard designs.

The MEA Fluid range includes:

Hydro MEA Fluid 100 | A clear width of 100mm, total width of 135mm, and total height of 127mm.

Hydro MEA Fluid 150 | A clear width of 150mm, total width of 186mm, and total height of 185mm.

Hydro Construction Products are the exclusive supplier of MEA Water Management Systems to Australia and New Zealand. Since this collaboration, Hydro's drainage division has been enlisted to supply water management products to multiple athletics/sporting facilities across Oceania, including the Perth Arena (WA), Adelaide Oval (SA), AAMI Soccer Stadium (VIC), and Moore Park Golf Club (NSW).
