KERBDRAIN: THE SAFE CHOICE
27 Sep 2017
ACO’s KerbDrain is a modular drainage system that incorporates safe and seamless design. Its installation in the IKEA Marsden Park’s carpark ensures that the safety of the site and its users will not be comprised during adverse weather.
ACO understands the multitude of concerns that commercial businesses must face when it comes to designing carparks for their customers. In recognition of this, their products have been utilised in a range of commercial carpark projects, such as the IKEA Marsden Park carpark in Sydney’s northwest suburbs.
When designing the Marsden Park carpark for their new facility, IKEA required a cost-effective, quick draining space that could handle high volumes of vehicle and pedestrian traffic without compromising on safety in wet weather.
The design of the carpark drainage system also needed to account for the hazards that IKEA customers face when navigating trolleys laden with long, odd shaped, heavy loads of modular furniture.
With these issues in mind, designers and contractors installed ACO’s KerbDrain system throughout the carpark. The KerbDrain system is integrated with the kerb layout, as opposed to a traditional, conventional pit system. The KerbDrain system removes the unnecessary need for undulation in the car park’s surface while still allowing for fast, optimal rainwater collection.
By utilising the ACO QK200B KerbDrain products, minimal and shallow excavation work was required to install a safe and cost-effective drainage system. The KerbDrain was well suited to IKEA’s needs as the product is comprised of Polycrete® Channels with a robust single piece construction and inlets for continuous drainage, removing the need of extensive installation earthworks.
The minimal pipework that is required for ACO KerbDrain systems allows for a linear drainage system that is fast draining and easy to access and maintain in case of heavy weather and/or blockages.
The result is a carpark that can safely and effectively serve hundreds of users each day, whatever the weather conditions.
