GREEN ROOFS AUSTRALASIA

22 Dec 2011

Green Roofs Australasia is a non-profit organisation at the forefront of the green roof movement in Australia and the Asian Pacific region.

Green roofs have historically played an important role in almost all societies. Today, the heat island effect and the rising cost of utilities have renewed interest in green roofs and other related concepts. Green Roofs Australasia is a nonprofit organisation at the forefront of the green roof movement in Australia and the Asian Pacific region.

Founded in 2007, GRA originally served Queensland, but expanded rapidly. Today, Green Roofs Australasia serves all of Australia, as well as New Zealand and neighboring regions. The goals of GRA include educating the public on the benefits offered by green roofs and walls, and helping industries and businesses realize the savings and environmental benefits offered by green roof designs. In addition, the organization helps foster international collaboration and further research and design within the industry.

Areas in which Green Roofs Australasia is active include collating scientific data and information to help illustrate the benefits offered by green roofs and walls, as well as exploring new strategies in construction, design and development. Creating educational programs for professionals and for the public is also high on the organization’s list of priorities, and they are committed to working with government agencies to help foster better health and a reduction in resource use through this technology.

GLA sponsors a wide range of lectures and learning opportunities. However, these are not limited to professionals and industry experts – the organization offers many learning opportunities for the public, in keeping with their goals of increasing awareness of the need for green roofs and walls throughout all global urban areas.
Members of Green Roofs Australasia are able to enjoy access to public lectures and speaking events, as well as to those that are not open to the public. In addition, they are able to benefit from unique training and educational opportunities provided by the organization, as well as business networking opportunities.
