The Don Lucas Reserve, behind Wanda Beach in Cronulla, is a perfect example of one of landscape contractor Hargraves Landscapes’ recent successful projects.
This public space upgrade for Sutherland Shire Council required a variety of specialist skills and features including a new playground, shelters and park furniture, new fitness facilities, an exercise track, replacing a helipad, extending the car park and the associated civil and landscape works.
The playground was designed to encourage children to use their imagination and sense of adventure. It now features sand and water play areas, a bird’s nest swing, dry creek bed, climbing rocks and double slippery dip.
“This project posed particular environmental challenges, not only to protect a sensitive coastal ecology and sympathetically enhance a significant open space, but to execute specialist works on a site incessantly exposed to extreme weather conditions,” said landscape architect Chris Robertson of Hargraves Landscapes.
“The Hargraves team skilfully executed this challenging work and the feedback from all stakeholders has been very positive.”
