CONSTRUCTION SITE CANVAS' FOR STREET ART
13 Mar 2023
Responding to the communities’ demand for more street art in Sydney, the City of Sydney has created an innovative and inclusive way for New South Wales artists to display their artwork on a large scale through the Creative Hoardings Program.
Replacing construction site wire screens and barricades, building sites in high traffic areas must now cover the construction walls with art submitted as part of the Creative Hoarding Program.
The Creative Hoarding Program allow artists in New South Wales the chance to display their work and gain recognition on a large scale. Recently, call outs for winter entrants were announced. Applicants were asked to submit artwork surrounding three themes:
- Eora Journey: Recognition in the Public Domain
- LGBTIQA+ and pride
- Expansive greening
From hundreds of applicants, 10 new artworks have been chosen and licensed to construction companies to use on their building sites, free of charge.
