CONSIDERING A CAREER IN LANDSCAPING?

15 Jul 2020

As Australia adjusts to major social and economic changes, the landscaping industry is forecast for future growth, making now the ideal time to consider a career in this sector. Find out more.

Landscape construction, gardening and design occupations are forecast to grow over the coming years.

Recently, as international travel restrictions have kept us at home, there has been renewed interest in landscapes. Our homes have become our sanctuaries, and we are looking to improve and enhance our outdoor lifestyle. Whatever the future holds, the sector will have an important role to play – and it will need innovative and skilled workers. Landscaping Victoria-Career-Landscape-Apprentice

Central to future success will be Australia’s TAFE system and its ability to train, upskill and reskill the next generation of landscape workers. Apprenticeships will be vital because they link training with on-the-job learning and future career opportunities in the industry.  Landscaping Victoria-Career-Landscape-Apprentice

Holmesglen’s Apprentice Support Officer, Robert Stewart, says, “It’s so important to nurture and encourage the next generation of landscapers to be the best they can be. Every business relies on the staff who work for them. Apprentices become the next business owners and in turn grow the landscape industry.”  Landscaping Victoria-Career-Landscape-Hedges-Fence-Pool

Apprenticeships are just the start of a career in landscaping. Landscaping is a diverse industry with many career pathways and opportunities for 'growth'. Apprentices become site supervisors, business owners, project managers and estimators. If a career “on the tools” is not for you, landscape design is an amazing field for those with a creative eye and love of horticulture, to consider.

Landscaping Victoria Master Landscapers is currently working with the Victorian Skills Commissioner to encourage people to consider a career in landscaping, whether you are straight out of school or are looking for a career change later in life. Landscaping Victoria-Career-Landscape-Apprentice
