AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPE CONFERENCE

01 Jun 2009

One of the worlds most successful conferences on garden design, the Australian Landscape Conference, will be held this year in September in Melbourne.

One of the world’s most successful conferences on garden design, the Australian Landscape Conference, will be held this year from September 11–15 at the Camberwell Centre in Melbourne.

The theme of the conference is “Designing the Liveable Landscape” and the event will include 11 presentations by leading international speakers including:

Rosemary Alexander, Principal of the London School of Design at the London Physic Garden.

Marta Montero, former partner of the maestro Roberto Burle Marx in Rio de Janeiro.

Eric Ossart and Arnaud Maurières, two brilliant designers best-known for their work in France, but who now mostly live and work in Morocco designing Islamic and desert gardens.

Nancy Power, leading Californian designer with a major practice in the USA working closely with brilliant architect Frank Gehry.

Ed Snodgrass, USA authority on rooftop gardens and plants.

Stephanie Alexander, leading food writer and founder of the outstanding foundation dedicated to teaching school children to grow fruit and vegetables.

Thomas L. Woltz (USA), who has worked on many projects, including Nick’s Head Station in New Zealand. His work emphasises the rich dialogue between architecture, landscape architecture and ecological process and he believes in the powerful role of aesthetic environmental experiences, such as beauty, in re-centring human consciousness. Nancy Power says: “He described the most beautiful, careful restoration of the land I have ever seen. I am telling you, as we say in the south, he is the best speaker that I have heard.”The conference also features garden tours, master classes and a cocktail party. Make sure you book early as places fill quickly at these events.
