AUSSIE MANUFACTURER SCORES FIRST GOAL

01 Apr 2010

Geofabrics, an Australian manufacturer, will compete on the world stage when it's drainage system plays a key role in the June FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Geofabrics Australasia Pty Ltd has supplied in excess of 20,000 lineal metres of hi-tech drainage materials to help deliver a world-class playing surface for the game that stops the globe.
The Megaflo drainage system has been installed beneath six major arenas - Soccer City in Johannesburg, Mbombela in Nelspruit, the Sugar Ray Xulu and Green Point Stadiums in Capetown, and the Princess Magogo and Moses Mabhida Stadiums in Durban.

Unlike traditional drainage systems, the Megaflo panel drain can be installed flat, thereby not disturbing the carefully prepared base as well as save the significant time and money normally spent digging trenches.Made from recycled milk bottles (Megaflo’s core structure) and recycled drink bottles (bidim geotextile attached to outer layer of panel) the Megaflo panel drain allows water to pass through, while blocking soil and sand particles, delivering the rapid and effective draining of water away from the playing surface.

Manufactured locally in Albury, NSW over the past decade, as well as exporting the Megaflo panel drain throughout South-East Asia, India and New Zealand, Geofabrics is excited to play a part in the world’s biggest international sporting event, showing that an Australian manufacturer can compete on the world stage, vindicating our belief in the product.

Widely used in golf courses and sporting fields around the world, the Megaflo drainage system also has applications in roads and highways, and behind retaining walls or bridge abutments.
In March 2010, Geofabrics opened the Geosynthetic Centre of Excellence in Queensland, which will be used as a venue for collaborative testing and research with engineers, regulators, universities and government agencies.
