LNA JOINS THE GIG
5 November 2012
Landscape NSW & ACT have joined with the Green Industries Group to form the NSW & ACT Industry Alliance.
Landscape NSW & ACT have joined with the Green Industries Group to form the NSW & ACT Industry Alliance whose core mission is to influence the quality of education and training delivered.
This Alliance forms the start of an inclusive partnership with likeminded groups to build a bigger stronger voice for issues that affect our industries and work on joint initiatives. The group will be looking to further partners to sign on. This is a great initiative that will benefit the broader Landscaping industry in NSW & ACT.
Brief Outline of GIG History
Last year the Nursery and Garden Industry Association NSW/ACT (NGINA), mainly through the efforts of its then CEO Mike Skegg, called a series of meetings of industry sector organizations to form the Green Industries Group.
This group had been formed internally a few years earlier to combat the actions proposed by the NSW Government to seriously limit the use of water as the drought continued in the State. The group was successful at that time in building a dialogue with the authorities that led to realistic water saving restrictions being adopted.
The GIG is comprised of several groups including:
HMANSW
NGINA
AILA
AILDM
AIH
LNA - Landscape NSW/ACT (the Landscape Contractors)
IACA
In addition there are representatives from the industry associations representing Arborists, Green Roofs and a few other bodies. The underlying theme of the GIG is to continue to lobby the various stakeholders on the value of Greenlife in the community at large and to ensure that government policies potentially impacting our greater industry are subject to appropriate scrutiny.
Most of the member bodies of the GIG are pursuing actions that profile the value of Green life in the community but often these initiatives are pursued in isolation and the full benefit is not derived.
An example of a worthwhile project is the new NGIA program “More Trees Please”, details of which you can find at www.ngia.com.au under the Plant/Life Balance section.
The LNA look forward to providing Green Industry Group updates to members in future editions of the Landscape Connection.
