The HEI Solar Light
23 February 2012
HEI have revolutionised solar lighting with their patented Powertube. The Powertube is integrated into the pole itself, no more flat panels. This acts as a 360 degree solar collector. 360 degree energy yield means no need to worry about angle positioning of a flat panel or the pole itself. The HEI picks up direct, indirect and reflected light from all directions and surfaces. The cells are wired in series and in parallel, meaning there is always some part of the tube working at all times. Putting the pole between trees, buildings etc, does not hinder the solar collection.
The HEI solar light requires little maintenance. The tube is self cleaning. No dirt, dust or bird droppings will cover the panels and reduce your energy yield – a common issue with flat panels. Flat panels also act as a sail area, poles may be wind rated to over 200kph with a high vandalism rating of IK06.
HEI use Phillips Lumiled LEDS which have a 65,000 to 75,000 hour life expectancy. All of the LEDs are individually replaceable. LEDs also emit much smaller amounts of UV radiation which means fewer insects and again less maintenance. LEDs are instant, no waiting for them to come up to full strength and can also be dimmed at any time.
The HEI solar light is controlled by a micro-processor. The unit is programmable with 40 different light profiles. It monitors battery levels and sets light output to match the amount of power remaining relative to the amount of time required. The lights can also be fitted with motion sensors to activate the light or bring it back from a dimmed down state.
There are six different HEI models to choose from.
