Cameron's Nursery Great Green Win

5 August 2011

Cameron’s Nursery has  won a NSW Government Green Globe Award for their innovative capillary watering system which not only effectively recycles water, but also tremendously increases their ability to capture and store water.

The NSW Government’s annual environment awards, held on 26th July at NSW Parliament House, were hosted by the Minister for the Environment and Heritage Robyn Parker.Decided by an independent panel of experts the Green Globe awards commend outstanding leadership, innovation and vision for a sustainable New South Wales.

Cameron’s Nursery , located at Arcadia in Sydney’s Hills District, designed their own capillary watering system after discovering that commercially available systems were unsuitable for their site. After a decade of extensive testing and collaborating with government and industry, the nursery now recycles 30 per cent of the water applied to plants and saves 3.5 million litres of drinking water each year.

Cameron’s Nursery Director, Sonja Cameron, was overwhelmed by the award. She revealed, “Cameron’s Nursery is very excited and proud to be awarded a Green Globe Award. Pioneering this project, where our ideas were not common-place in the industry, had its risks but the results have been worthwhile.”

The nursery has also increased their ability to capture and store water by 240 percent and is actively participating in sharing this knowledge with industry, government and the community.

Sonja Cameron explains, “We hope to share our success with the industry and help to educate others while we continue to help the environment”.

For the Cameron’s Nursery management team who have worked closely with industry, Hornsby Shire Council and state government to achieve such stunning results the Green Globe award is true recognition of their hard work.

The 2011 NSW Government’s annual environment award winners represent NSW small and large business, public sector and not for profit organisations, as well as individuals. A record number of nominations were received in the 12 year history of the Awards.
