Qantas has recently built a new aircraft maintenance facility at Sydney International Airport to accommodate its new fleet of Airbus A380 aircraft.

Sydney Airport Corporation gave a directive to designers to eliminate the possibility of loose grates. This is a direct result of ongoing rectification works from the existing trench grate and frame systems that have failed.

Engineers therefore opted for ACO’s Qmax. This system, with its heavy duty galvanised frame, does not comprise removable grates, is rated to 900kN (EN1433) and is therefore suitable for aircraft wheel loads. In addition to this, its HDPE body was sized adequately to meet the hydraulic requirements of the project.
