Shaderunner® Australia recently completed the installation of a series of innovative Shaderunner® retractable shade systems at Westcare Early Learning Centre (ELC) in Camden Park, South Australia. This upgrade has significantly enhanced the outdoor learning zones, offering the perfect balance of functionality, durability and style to meet the centre’s dynamic needs.

The project features 13 Shaderunner® Pro motorised systems, each linked for smooth and efficient operation. The systems are powered by Somfy® RTS motors and controlled via an easy-to-use click-button remote, ensuring optimal sun protection for the children.

Ten systems measure 3.0m wide with a 5.3m extension, providing 160sqm of shade overall. An additional three spans extend to 5.5m, covering a total of 210sqm of learning space.

With its 95 percent polyester mesh fabric, these shades offer superior UV protection, glare reduction and mildew resistance, creating a safe outdoor space for the next generation.

In addition to the motorised Shaderunner® Pro systems, the project included the installation of a self-standing Shaderunner® Trax Pergo structure over the sandpit. This modular framed structure, measuring 5.4m wide with a 5.5m extension and 3m in height, features a lightweight powdercoated aluminium frame. The structure includes seamless posts and side beams for enhanced stability and long-term durability. The motorised Trax Pergo is also powered by a Somfy® RTS motor and can be controlled alongside other Shaderunner® systems as part of a group control. Designed to meet the specific needs of Westcare ELC, both the Shaderunner® Pro systems and the Trax Pergo structure enhance the centre’s outdoor learning and play areas, ensuring children can enjoy their time in the sun while being protected from harmful UV rays.

The Shaderunner® Retractable Shade Systems were chosen for their durability and ease of use. Constructed with marine-grade stainless steel fittings for the Shaderunner® Pro models and lightweight aluminium tracks for the Shaderunner® Trax models, the systems offer smooth operation and require minimal maintenance. The motorised systems come with a 5-year warranty, ensuring long-lasting performance and reducing the need for frequent servicing. The installation process was carried out efficiently and completed on time, ensuring everything was perfectly in place to provide shade and comfort from day one.
