TO THE MOON AND BACK
Using the vastness of space for inspiration, this playspace takes kids into another orbit through play.
Responsible for the design, manufacture and installation of the play equipment, WillPlay has delivered a playscape that is out of this world to the inhabitants of Moonah in Tasmania.
Benjafield Park is located in the picturesque region of Glenorchy. Home to many families, the park’s newly landed structures were designed to ignite the imagination and fuel the adventuring spirit, making it a destination space for the local community. Outfitted by Australian play manufacturer WillPlay, the park’s cosmic theme transports its users on a series of otherworldly adventures.
Standing at the centre of the new playspace is a bespoke rocket and launch tower — the command centre. Joined by a net bridge, the towering structures encourage excited space rangers to climb into the stratosphere before taking one of two giant twisting slides back down to Earth.
An innovative Street Climber system also presents young spacewalkers with an opportunity to explore multiple dimensions. Branching off along pathways that spiral into other galaxies, this physical adventure is as much about making choices as it is about traversing the unknown, for those that dare to try.
For the littlest of stargazers, a village of custom cubbies keeps the space-themed story going. Little ones can check-in for a check-up at the space hospital, fuel up at the space station, pull up for a bite at the space food store, or take a ride on the accessible moon buggy, all within the safe confines of the fenced playground.
Throw in a spinning orb, an all-abilities spinner and a see-saw, some swings, and musical instruments that include a 16-note symphony, a four-note drum set and giant chimes, and you’ve got yourself a gravity-defying adventure for all ages and abilities.
For those that want to explore the landscape of this new and exciting world, a double cable way offers a competitive side-by-side challenge that lets those who can handle the adrenaline to streak across the terrain below to see who will be the first to land.
To ensure those new to the planet don’t get lost, wayfinding signs direct would-be astronauts to the park’s training zone, where they can master the necessary skills to enable their upcoming space adventures.
Designed to withstand the vagaries of a harsh coastal climate, the Benjafield Park playspace was constructed of aluminium, stainless steel and recycled HDPE components to ensure longevity. The vibrant colour scheme also lends its own appeal to explorers, and will remain bright beneath the harsh Australian sun for years to come.
Whether you want to spin, fly, climb or slide, the imaginative adventures created at Benjafield Park space station are sure to suit. Igniting the spirit of play and providing a safe environment that welcomes all, this innovative and inclusive environment is a launchpad for community harmony.
