This multilevel playspace provides numerous pathways for users to experience many levels of play challenges.

Custom designed using a mix of elements from its extensive range, ASpace has designed, manufactured and installed an all-ages play zone at the BIG4 Holiday Park in Bellarine, Victoria.

Located along the south coast of the Port Phillip Bay, centrally located just 30 minutes from Geelong’s CBD, BIG4 Bellarine Holiday Park is set in a spectacular beachside location with all the amenities travelling families could want; this includes an adventure playground for all ages and abilities.

Combining elements from its many collections, ASpace has created the visual wow its clients wanted in a big way. A number of Spire Towers form the foundation of the playspace, providing high play value that keeps kids coming back.

According to ASpace, its Spire Towers are not just playground structures, they are “gateways to adventure, packed with activities that engage and excite children”. Built to withstand the diverse Australian climate, these structures will ensure fun for holiday dwellers season after season.

A series of activity cubes connect the towers, providing climbing activities such as monkey bars, suspended rock walls, slides and climbing walls that help build strength and encourage problem solving. A range of freestanding units such as a conical climbing net, a nest swing, a spinner and an a-frame swing set round out the play area, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

Made from durable, high-quality materials, this playspace compliments the existing environment and visitor facilities. A palette of blues, greens and browns was chosen to blend with the leafy surrounds and natural tones of the landscape. The timber battens interspersed between laser-cut metal panels that make up the towers enhance their tree-like quality and add a natural element that further solidifies its place in the natural surrounds.

The height of the towers and the leaf decals employed give the playground a unique identity that provides a strong visual impact and makes it easily recognisable from the adjacent roadway. It also indicates a sense of adventure that draws visitors in, offering challenge, variety and multiple user experiences.

Complementary landscaping and lighting ensure the playspace is usable throughout all times of the day. Maximising the space, the play
zones are spread out to encourage users of all ages to play harmoniously without conflict. Little adventure seekers can safely swing on one side, while more advanced thrill seekers can climb and slide across the way on the taller play structures.

With safety always front of mind, ASpace engaged Playmatta to provide Australian Standards compliant surfacing to sit beneath
the play structures, forming a green and brown checkered base upon which play can occur safely. Surrounding this unique surface material is timber mulch, which enhances the forest-like theme of the playground and reinforces BIG4’s safety commitment to its visitors.

A pathway runs the entire perimeter of the playspace, providing ease of access for everyone, as well as a fun path for scooters and bikes. Timber picnic settings dot the edges of the park to allow parents and guardians a spot to sit and dine. Alternatively, supervision is made easier by raised concrete benches that form part of the outer edges of the play areas and make for a handy seat. Landscaped garden beds planted with native greenery finish off the final design, softening the edges of the spaces and providing a little welcomed shade.

Australian made and tested, this engaging playspace offers a high play value to visitors that will stand the rigours of use for years to come.
