GATHERING ON A NEW STAGE

A reimagined Lyndoch Recreation Park is ready to welcome athletes and fans as it takes the spotlight for AFL Gather Round.

Lyndoch Recreation Park, located in South Australia’s Barossa Valley, has unveiled an extensive transformation as the facility prepares to host the AFL Gather Round matches in 2025.

As a part of a wider reconstruction project, the $45.7 million upgrade to the venue, co-funded between the State Government and the Barossa Council, was finished ahead of schedule and will be ready for community use following its debut as a key venue in this year’s footy extravaganza.

The precinct overhaul features a multipurpose building with a 350-seat event space, clubrooms with a commercial kitchen, multisport change facilities and gyms, and an Adelaide Oval-inspired bar and service area to support events and the cricket club. Other upgrades include a recreation green and second oval, an athletics track, shelters, a new playground and family garden, additional car parking and a formalised roadway.

Delivering high-performance facilities for both elite and community sport, 6050 square metres of new and reconditioned sports courts have been installed, consisting of six tennis courts, four netball courts and a half-multisport court. The playing surfaces feature ICP Group’s Rebound Ace Synpave system, applied to more than 3450 square metres of new asphalt and 2400 square metres of existing reconditioned court areas.

“Rebound Synpave was chosen as the preferred surface for the netball and tennis courts as its superior grip in all conditions provides the ultimate playing surface for players of all levels and abilities,” said Tom Burgess of TEB Construction, the lead contractor for the installation.

“TEB Contractors are a proud South Australian-based company, and we were extremely happy to supply a locally manufactured product from our partner ICP Group Australasia. Made in South Australia, installed by South Australians — it’s a good thing,” he continues.

The Rebound Ace Synpave surface is a seamless, multilayered water-based acrylic system with proven UV colour fastness, designed for all-weather durability. Its long-lasting and low-maintenance performance makes it an ideal choice for a range of sports, including tennis, netball, pickleball and multisport. The system can also be tailored with cushioned and non-cushioned courts to suit all levels of performance and budgets.

With the AFL Gather Round set to put Lyndoch Recreation Park on the national stage, the impact of this redevelopment will be immediate, but its legacy as a premier community sporting hub will extend well beyond the event, providing a lasting benefit for local athletes and future competitions.
