CONCRETE RAINBOW SERPENT

The artist was inspired by Australian fauna and Indigenous culture to create a rainbow serpent for a new playground. Working alongside Urban Art Projects (UAP), Benzini formed the serpent into several colourful sections.

Creating the mould for the serpent was no simple matter as each part was curved in two directions. Benzini and UAP used wooden chipboard to make the basic mould and used liner of patterned lino to perfect the final shape. The lino also featured recessed Indigenous art, leaving a beautiful design in the concreted once it had been poured and set.

Each section was painted in a different bright colour, and installed by UAP. The result is an eye-catching play piece sure to be enjoyed by many families to come.
