BROLGA BOLLARDS

by Replas

There was a time when the word ‘solid’ evoked a sense of stability and sturdiness. Replas is turning that idea on its head with its innovative range of hollow bollards. Made using the latest technology, these revolutionary bollards are super strong, yet lightweight, making them cheaper to transport and easier to install than other hefty alternatives.

The Brolga bollard, named after the official bird emblem of QLD, is tall and slender with an elegant profile, and is equally at home in coastal or wetland areas. The unique double-wall construction offers more rigidity, adding strength to the installation, and a hollow centre means although the bollards are strong they are extremely lightweight.

As is the case of all our recycled-plastic products, these posts are virtually maintenance free. They will not split, rot, crack, or ever need painting. The Brolga is easy to install and can stand alone or be linked via chain or pipe.

A recent project completed by Replas in the Northern Territory utilised the Brolga Bollard range to solve an old problem. At Mindil Beach in Darwin, outdated wooden bollards in the park were very badly deteriorated due to the harsh climate and damage from termites. Needing a more durable solution, the city of Darwin council decided to replace the rotting timber with around 850 brolga bollards made from recycled plastic. The result is row upon row of beautifully straight black bollards that stretch for almost a kilometer along the foreshore park.

Hot moist conditions in Darwin will have no effect on the bollards because termites have no appetite for plastic, so they will long outlast timber.

Jamie Lewis, Technical Officer at the city of Darwin, said the council is, “very happy with the final outcome and will be using more in the area due to the popularity of the bollard amongst the public and the Mindil Market Committee”.
