NORTH HARBOUR PRECINCT IS FULL STEAM AHEAD

A $2.74 billion precinct has received Priority Development Area (PDA) for Moreton Bay in Queensland, with plans including a marina, a waterfront retail and entertainment centre and the largest open space recreation area in South East Queensland.
Almost 20 years in the making, the North Harbour Marina Precinct will open the way to a jobs and economic bonanza for the Moreton Bay region. The landmark project will transform more than 570 hectares of prime waterfront land into a world-class lifestyle destination designed to amaze, excite and inspire.
Located in Burpengary East in the City of Moreton Bay, the world-class marina, tourism and retail precinct will deliver 3,700 homes and nearly 2,000 jobs, transforming the suburb into a booming new waterfront hub, while significantly boosting vital housing supply and development in the region ahead of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
The $2.74-billion masterplan includes a 400-berth marina, waterfront retail and entertainment village and vibrant maritime industry for the Burpengary East location. It will also lead to the creation of an incredible 319-hectare waterfront open space recreation area, the largest in South East Queensland, and unlock for public enjoyment 12km of Caboolture River frontage.
Welcoming the approval, Bryan Finney, Project Director at North Harbour Holdings, says, “This announcement confirms that the state is serious about working with local government and the private sector to unlock high-impact projects that deliver for Queenslanders.”
Director of MAS Architecture Studio Nick Symonds welcomed the Queensland government’s designation of the North Harbour PDA as a sign of action in the current housing climate. “The North Harbour precinct will meet urgent housing needs, but it also represents the future of bayside living in Southeast Queensland,” Symonds commented. “We’re not just building homes. We’re designing a place that’s sustainable, well connected, and built for a modern Queensland lifestyle. With the Olympics approaching, this puts Moreton Bay in a prime position to shine nationally.”
An Interim Land Use Plan is now in effect, allowing development applications to proceed for the Early Release Area. Over the next 18 months, Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) will lead the preparation of a detailed Development Scheme in partnership with the City of Moreton Bay.
