URBAN COASTAL HARMONY

The completion of this open space development comprising a range of public amenities is a welcome addition to the community of Point Cook.

Construction on the Saltwater Coast Parklands development in Point Cook, South Australia, has been a milestone project for GR Design & Construct (GRDC), with a mixture of hard and soft infrastructure requirements allowing them to fully explore their capabilities and produce a harmonious outcome for the local community.

Saltwater Coast is a residential development that was created to provide both urban and coastal themes in an environment that is responsive to the unique character and cultural identity of the community. Offering a choice of land packages to suit every lifestyle, the new development also includes lush and spacious wetlands and parks interspersed with an abundance of community facilities and transport links.

Twenty-five percent of the Saltwater Coast development is parklands, providing over 50 hectares of public space that contains a range of BBQ facilities, boardwalks, shelters, playgrounds and public areas proudly shaped by the work of GRDC.

Working with Tract Consultants, the landscape architects on the project, GRDC was responsible for the design, engineering, fabrication and installation of the boardwalks, bridges, shelters, furniture and restrooms on the development. The low impact, low lying timber structures created by GRDC are environmentally friendly and low maintenance, well integrated into the landscape, and very user friendly.

Work done by GRDC on Stage 5 of the development included:

• Boardwalks and bridges
• Viewing platforms
• Shelters
• Restrooms
• Amphitheater seating

GRDC also facilitated early planning and works, including surveys, soil reports and engineering.

The latest stage of development at Saltwater Coast is another great example of GRDC working with multiple organisations to deliver a natural outdoor environment for the community of Point Cook.
