HYDRATING GRAND PACIFIC WALK
Custom water fountains insert some local charm and keep visitors to the Grand Pacific Walk hydrated.
Used by thousands each year to walk, ride, run and play, the Grand Pacific Walk is a breathtaking recreational trek stretching from Pinecourt Reserve in Austinmer to East Corrimal Beach along Australia’s eastern seaboard.
To ensure that visitors along the coastal walk feel welcome and remain safe, Wollongong City Council partnered with the Austinmer/Thirroul Lions Club to install custom water fountains along the entire length of the trail.
With funding secured from the NSW Government’s My Community Project, Wollongong City Council commissioned Civiq for a series of water drinking stations to hydrate the rising number of visitors taking in the Grand Pacific Walk. In choosing Civiq’s Aquafil FlexiFountain for its project, Council was able to achieve durability combined with local flair, as each fountain contains custom art and, on the reverse side, a helpful map that provides wayfinding information along the route.
Already proving to be a winning selection, the Aquafil FlexiFountains from Civiq are durable, sustainable and hygienic. Manufactured in a sturdy stainless steel, the water stations have the capacity to stand up to a harsh marine environment. Australian made and built to last, the Aquafil FlexiFountains deliver a superior water drinking experience that encourages hydration, is accessible for all and, because of its durability, is a long-term investment for councils.
Catering to the eco-conscious in the community, the FlexiFountain serves as a bottle filler as well as an all-access drinking fountain. Encouraging people to carry reusable bottles, thereby reducing plastic waste, and drink more water, the FlexiFountain is the ultimate hydration cheerleader. It even caters to four-legged community members, with a swinging pet bowl inclusion.
More than just a solid choice for the environment, Civiq’s Aquafil water stations also embrace the spirit of the local area, with each fountain featuring stunning artwork and wayfinding information. Created by talented primary school students, the Grand Pacific Walk fountains showcase a touch of local charm in the form of colourful artworks of local fauna and familiar vistas.
Transforming a functional object into a conversation starter, the FlexiFountain’s capacity to display art is a great way to inject some creativity into the environment, as well as give the local community a stake in their public spaces.
In addition, helpful location orientation information and direction indicators were added to the opposite side of the fountains to ensure those along the walk always knew where they were and where they were headed next. The helpful comprehensive signage system of detailed maps not only aids clear navigation, they also help foster a sense of security and ease within users of the pathway.
Hygienic, safe and colourful, the Aquafil FlexiFountain water drinking stations along the Grand Pacific Walk are a valuable community asset that not only enhance the recreational experience, they also provide a sustainable hydration system that will serve the community long term.
