GOLD COAST LIGHT RAIL
With custom designed infrastructure from Stoddart, the Gold Coast Light Rail is on track to provide a world-class sustainable rail system.
Commissioned to project manage the manufacture and installation of infrastructure for the Gold Coast Light Rail project, Stoddart, together with the Architectural, Infrastructure and Town & Park divisions of the company, provided a range of custom solutions in line with the project’s design specifications.
The Gold Coast Light Rail (GCLR) project is slated to provide a world-class, sustainable, integrated light rail system that will support the future prosperity of the Gold Coast community. It services locals and tourists on the Gold Coast, running from Griffith University, through Surfers Paradise and into Broadbeach. The GCLR seeks to minimise environmental impacts and promote sustainable outcomes.
Working alongside architects and engineers to achieve these outcomes, Stoddart fabricated custom solutions for the supply and installation of a range of external elements along the length of the project. With all aspects of the job being essential to the overall project, Stoddart was responsible for the delivery of DDA compliant city seats, bollards, bins, bike racks, shelters and custom furniture elements.
Delivering over 100 seats in a period of 2-3 months, the GCLR project was one of the single biggest delivery projects in Stoddart’s history. Custom designed infrastructure of hardwood timber, stainless steel and perforated steel provided a blend of durability and contemporary style. The robust and vandal resistant materials used offered comfort and increased strength to each piece, ensuring the longevity of the project.
Key elements in a varying range of styles and materials included:
- Stainless steel cabinets and booths
- Balustrades and bollards
- Seats and benches
- Bin and bin enclosures
- Railings and handrails
