A TOWER OF FUN

Representing one of its most ambitious projects to date, ForPark is thrilled with the completion of Copper City playground. The largest and most challenging project undertaken by the play specialists, this visually spectacular playspace has fast become the play destination desired by Mount Isa City Council.

Reflecting the copper mining history of the area, ForPark’s playscape blends seamlessly with the surrounding terrain. Responsible for design, construction and project management, the team at ForPark working closely with LA3 Urban Design & Landscape Architecture to bring Council’s vision for the family fun park to life.

To realise the brief for the project of a visually stimulating playscape, ForPark utilised its Elevate range to create a triple tower play structure as its centerpiece. A main tower soaring to 3.4 meters in height takes centre stage, offering fully enclosed platforms, an 8-meter slide, custom waved roofs and bespoke net bridges. Two junior towers flank the main tower, each packed with extended play value for adventurers of all ages.

Tower two challenges active children with a climbing web wall, flying fox, balance pommels and cargo rope net. Linked by a second rope bridge, tower three focuses on younger players, boasting a double wave slide, an array of climbing nets, monkey bars, a crawl tunnel and a fire pole. With plenty of observation port holes and easy access, tower three is a basecamp for imaginative play.

Given the harsh environment in Queensland’s “top end”, from baking heat to torrential rains, the upgraded playground needed to stand up to the climate extremes of the region. All the structures provide heavy-duty defences against deterioration while still prioritising the mining town heritage of Mt Isa. To ensure the design brief, an industrial style was introduced that reflects local mining stacks. Copper-coloured poles add to the ambience while the twisted roofs, rope bridges and the mounded topography of the space bring to mind the outback landscape Mt Isa is renowned for.

Part of a $5 million refurbishment, the new Copper City playspace is surrounded by skate facilities, insulated shade structures, splash pads, a flying fox, amphitheatre and fitness equipment, all encompassed by landscaped parklands that offer families a much-needed retreat for relaxation and play.
