A HOME AMONG THE GUM TREES
Part of a multi-stage project, Alexander Clark Park boasts inclusive play zones and intricate laser-cut gum leaves that celebrate the area’s beloved koala population.
An impressive $6.34 million upgrade, Alexander Clark Park has brought new life to the local community. Built to serve the region for generations to come, Logan City Council’s master plan spans several years, with this multi-purpose park set to become the beating heart of the rapidly growing area. Delivered by GX Outdoors, this complete park solution unites a diverse range of furniture products in harmonious colours that enhances the natural beauty of the region.
The design process for the park was driven by the voices of those who matter most, the locals who will call this park home. Using the
results of extensive community consultation, GX Outdoors partnered with Logan City Council to create a fully tailored solution for the park. The design vision brought to life integrates natural elements, reflecting the park’s proximity to the Logan River and its rich biodiversity, which includes cockatoos, koalas and platypuses. The challenge was to create a space that harmonised with the local environment while offering an innovative, usable area for the community.
The first two stages of the multi-phase project are now complete and feature a major playground, water play areas, sports courts, event spaces, bike tracks and sheltered picnic areas. A complete suite of products was provided by GX Outdoors to outfit these two stages, and ensure every space within the park not only served its purpose but also enhanced the overall user experience.
Key elements included meticulously designed table settings, durable shelters and functional barbecue areas to foster community gatherings and outdoor meals. Platforms and stools were strategically placed throughout the park to offer visitors a comfortable, relaxing spot to enjoy the natural surroundings. Custom-designed bin enclosures were incorporated to maintain a clean and sustainable environment, while stylish park seats were placed to ensure ample seating throughout the park.
A standout feature of the project is GX Outdoors’ newly designed Acacia Shelter. Inspired by the graceful form of the Acacia tree, the new shelter breaks away from traditional two and four-post designs, instead featuring a single central pole and a sleek, minimalist flat roof. Crafted from durable, rust-proof aluminium, the shelters seamlessly blend with the park’s natural aesthetic.
Adding a little artistic flair, the intricate laser-cut gum leaf and nut designs on the Acacia Shelter roofs cast beautiful, natural patterns on the ground, adding an immersive, sensory experience for visitors that celebrates the area’s wildlife. Combined with the giant koala play unit that stands at the centre of the park’s playspace, this design element showcases the pride the community has in its wild koala population and indigenous flora.
Another notable feature is the Wave Seat, a lounge chair designed for comfort, durability and aesthetic appeal. These seats, along with other park furniture, are 100 percent Australian made, ensuring the highest quality and craftsmanship. They are also DDA-compliant, making them accessible to all members of the community.
In addition, the TimberImage benchtops chosen for the seating and tables not only contributed to the park’s natural look but also ensure durability and easy long-term maintenance, thanks to their aluminium construction. This combination of aesthetics and practicality creates sustainable, low-maintenance park furniture that will keep the park looking beautiful for years.
A proven boost for the community, Alexander Clark Park is the result of collaboration between many talented individuals and companies, with GX Outdoors playing a key role in shaping the park’s success.
