BOTANIX AT THE MIFGS
30 March 2016
Botanix Plat Supply was proud to be a supplier at the 2016 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show; stocking several of the show gardens and displays for the delight of thousands of visitors.
The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show (MIFGS) is a showcase of greenlife held in the picturesque setting of the Carlton Gardens. This year, Botanix Plant Supply provided stock to a number of gardens and green displays, ranging from dwarf lemons in 30cm pots to 150L Lagerstroemia x indica Tuscarora.
One of the stock highlights provided by Botanix Plant Supply was the Eucalyptus cladocaylx ‘EUC78’ Vintage Red PBR. This Eucalyptus was used in the display garden Refuge in the Avenue of Achievable Gardens category. Designed by Lincoln Flynn, Refuge won 1st place in its category, and won the coveted People’s Choice Award.
Vintage Red has purple foliage that appears almost black in certain light, and attractive silver-grey bark. Growing to around 8m x 4m wide, this small tree can be pruned to shape to fit into smaller spaces.
Botanix also proudly supplied Lincoln’s Refuge with Acacia cognate, Waterfall, a grafted native standard with fine foliage and a neat, weeping habit.
Each year the Tree and Shrub Growers Victoria (TSGV) stand heavily emphasises the use of plants in the landscape. This year was no exception. The house used in TSGV’s green display was overtaken by trees, including Acacia cognata Lime Magik and Eucalyptus leucoxylon Scarlet, which were supplied by Botanix Plant Supply.
Also supplied to this garden was another purple foliaged plant; Lagerstroemia x indica Plum Magic PBR. This small growing (1.8m) purple foliaged crepe myrtle is a great alternative for a hedge or screening plant, with a long flowering time and contrasting foliage.
