WOLLONGONG COASTAL WALK
Custom Fountains Bring Local Charm to Coastal Walk
The Grand Pacific Walk has been enhanced with the installation of custom drinking water stations that improve hydration, safety and accessibility along this well-used coastal pathway. Stretching from Pinecourt Reserve in Austinmer to East Corrimal Beach, the walk attracts locals and visitors year-round for walking, running and cycling.
Wollongong City Council partnered with the Austinmer/Thirroul Lions Clubs to deliver a practical and welcoming hydration solution in response to growing visitor numbers. With funding secured through the NSW Government’s My Community Project, nine Aquafil FlexiFountain drinking water stations were installed along the route.
Chosen for their durability and suitability for marine environments, the stainless steel Aquafil FlexiFountain stations provide three water access points, including bottle refill outlets, an accessible drinking fountain and dog drinking bowls. This inclusive design ensures the stations cater to people of all ages and abilities, as well as pets.
Each station features custom artwork created by local primary school students, adding a unique community element while enhancing the visual appeal of the coastal setting. Supporting signage with detailed maps was also installed to assist navigation and improve visitor confidence along the pathway.
The result is a welcoming, sustainable and community-focused public space that supports hydration, accessibility and enjoyment for everyone using the Grand Pacific Walk.
